So here is the concept art I'm working with. Since I'm not much of the drawing type, I worked with my friend Paul Lucido who is and after telling him what I wanted, he came up with this. I've got some early modeling shots and I'll have the finals up soon.
Basically I modeled this and unwrapped it some time ago but didnt think I'd have time to finish it before the deadline because of everything else going on in my life, but I think I will.
I'm also trying something new with this model which I've never done, which is hand painting the texture maps and scanning them into the computer with minimal photoshop retouching, Then applying that to a flat Toon shader in Maya. My hope is to make it look almost just like the drawing, since it is basically a comic book take on the classic Bot. So hopefully that goes well :D

Better hurry man, contest final turn in date is Friday
James! where have you been lurking? Nice concept, I like the quality of the sketches. The legs feel a tad short to me.
Hurry up, this is due in a few days!

How much will this character bend? Is he going to jump around and attack?

Dabu: Nah I'm not... but its kind of too late to repaint all the textures at this point so : \ lol
r3ppr490n: I already get what you're saying, and I've remodeled some of the joints for better deformation, thanks for pointing that out mate.

I'm going to use today and tomorrow to re-scan the texture paintings at a higher DPI and re-arrange the UVS to maximize pixel density. I had them setup really stupid before I painted so yeah, this way I can get around it and it will produce an overall higher quality texture. :)
so its supposed to look like a drawing? Trippy effect...
uvs? texture?

Is there going to be hatch lines for shadows? That would be awesome and would also give it more that comic book drawing you wanted.

I wish I was good at hatch shading haha. If I was, that would make this totally awesome.
