heh, well it was yesterday at 4pm that I decided that I would take a breather from my project and spend this week creating a last minute submission. I was going to have it be a surprise entry on the last day since I haven't really been active on gamesteppers for a while but I decided that any feedback that I could get while I pump this character out would help me have a more complete entry.

Concept: Some done in 2D and some in 3D :)

Currently I'm trying to finalize the modeling and figure the best way to handle the flames. I'm going to try a suggestion I got to do a particle generator with flame alphas. I'm just not sure how that fits towards the polycount limit if it does at all during this contest.

heh and me trying a crazy idea for doing alphas. I ended up deciding not going this route. Hopefully I can get a good suggestion or the particle generator works out.

So slowed it down a bit since we got the extension. Did some more optimizing and vert tweaks. Spent like 2 1/2 days UV mapping. Didn't like the first one so I did another that I'm little more happy with though I still have a few gaps I could have done a little more with. So I've laid in the base colors and I'm bouncing back and forth between the colors on his visor. So I figured I'd post and update with a mini-poll :). Tell me what works for you.

#1-#4 Left to Right #5 none of the above.

P.S. Ignore the legs I was trying something out that didn't work out on #4. Balance was thrown off too much with white being replaced by orange down there. Also I blocked in the colors for the flame sizing I'm thinking of. Still working on making it happen.

While I really liked the vector art look. I painted in some shadowing and then did an AO pass to give the geo more volume on screen. Its currently at 45% opacity because I still want to maintain the animated look. Once I've got my clean version textured up, I'll go back and scratch, ding and dirty the guy up. I tried a couple overlays for the "fuel" tank and lines but it didn't come out well so still working on that. Still no luck with the flames. Going to try to spend a good chunk tomorrow getting that worked out.

Today's Progress. Only got in a few hours today. Did an alpha version of the head flame. Not sure if I'll stick with it or change it. Haven't had much luck messing with the emitter. Also did an initial scratch and dirt pass.

Still working specularity, dirt, scratches and dents.
