I have taken up the reins of zombie redcoat musicians. Here's my take on it. I'll have orthos soon. I guess they should all be fairly quick to model since they all have similar body types, minus some limbs here and there.

Whoops, forgot to post the orthos.

And here is a progress update on the 1st one. Currently at 952 tris.

Good work!

These should turn out great - good concepts and solid orthos. I say go for it!

See if you can get all of the textures for these guys on a single map - as you said most of the differences are trading limbs and swapping heads. My guess is that all of these guys could use the same texture and it will still look totally sweet.

Here are the characters modeled and UV'd. Polycounts from left to right... 944, 888, 828, and 978. And the texture map will be 1024x1024

Here's a preliminary screen grab of my progress. I also redid the UVs so that the characters are more modular. I felt like the space I allocated for the faces were just using up way too much UV space and it didn't require that much detail so I scaled those down and it created more space for other stuff. Each character has his own closed hand, open hand, torn sleeve, and torn pants in addition to missing arms and arm bone. Also, there are 4 sets of coat halves and arms to mix and match with.

Slight progress update.

These match the concept so well. I like the facial expressions. It would be nice to see them look a bit more rotting.

watch the buzzing of the sock tops, make the black bars thicker, less contrast

These are really creative. I like how consistent the textures are.

Good job on cranking those out so quickly! These do seem very consistent, but I do have a few notes:

1. I would desaturate the colors in most of these guys, we don't want the skin tones to get to "Easter"-y.

2. I'd like to see more attention to the skin tones - throw in some highlights, shadows, subtle bruising - stuff like that.

3. On that note, we can do a little gore - don't over do it, but some bloodstains on clothes and skin would be great.

Looking great man, keep up the good work!

I've desaturated the skin tone a little bit but I haven't worked too much on adding detail just yet. I actually wanted to see how modular these guys are so I made a zombie assembly line. Since the pivot points are in relation to the origin, I could just select the parts I want and snap back to the origin to create instant zombies of different variations.

I want to see a screenshot of as many assembled soldiers as possible. This is awesome...

Just for sh*** and giggles, here's a screen shot of my army of various combinations. And here's a construction & beauty shot I did for the Character/Hero Props class. Enjoy!
