Here's 2 different ideas, one is a native america and one is a redcoat...
they are both adorable...
The native american is a little green for a native american, but otherwise all cool.

I love the look of the zombie with the American flag, just minus the American flag. You have a great sense of personality (if you call what a zombie has a personality). You could even make some general generic zombies. I'm really surprised we don't have any, they're going to be essential, in my opinion.

So, here are my orthos for the woman i did. I made her more cartoony, so hopefully she fits the style better!

Looking good so far!
Make sure when you are modeling to remember that we will not have the luxury of using 2-sided textures, so some of those flat areas (like the band on the top of her dress) might need to have some geometry in order to work.

Hello,
I know you're under the poly budget, but I think you can actually lose more polygons without changing the look and feel of this model. I've attached an image with a few notes on it - the red area on the face is a place where I see a concentration of smaller polygons that do not seem to be really affecting the geometry all that much. This would be one place where you might be able to find some polys. Also, the eye socket doesn't need all of the polygons that it is currently carrying.
I see a couple polys poking out of the top of her dress - take a look at these and see if they are necessary. Generally, it's not worth having a teeny tiny polygon like those, but if they are important keep em.
The other place I noticed something was in the dress, particularly around where the left leg is. It looks like some of the geometry there is all mixed up or something - some of the edge loops seem to just disappear, and you have some weird normal crumpling or something there.
The last thing is the missing arm. It seems like we have a lot of models on this contest that have a missing arm. I don't mind an occasional missing arm here and there but I'm seeing a lot of it. I like how the arm sort of falls apart at or near the elbow here, but it would be cool if there was a fleshy hand at the end of her left arm instead of a stump. I would make it like the middle of her arm got ripped out somewhere along the way, but she still has her whole arm and hand.
This is a great model - kinda reminds me of Tim Burton's the Corpse Bride. Don't be discouraged by all the comments - lots of feedback is a good thing.

thanks for all the advice! i fixed the model so it's now at 782 tris, and changed the arm. Also, i fixed the dress a little, and that one weird looking area is where the dress is supposed to be torn, showing another layer under the dress... hopefully that makes sense. And hopefully this is way better now! but if there's anything else I should fix, let me know!

Awesome character. The design is really funny. He looks so clueless....

Hello Octokitty,
The model looks much cleaner - but I didn't mean for you to change the geometry of the head! I thought you would be able to keep the eye socket, just reduce some of the polys inside it. I think it's still okay though, you can do a lot of that detail with the texture and at the size it will be seen at it will probably read great.

here's the model of my 2nd zombie. it's only 568 tris... i dont know how i did that, haha
she feels a tad clean, not that it doesn't work as is. Try overlaying this into your texture and see what you get

its a tad compressed though

Here's my 2nd zombie, pretty much finished... but i have REALLY bad news. I don't know how I did this, but I saved the wrong file over my first zombie and now it's gone. I'm gonna try to either redo it or do another one by the time the contest is over... I just can't believe i did that.

This character was my favorite of yours, and it came out true to the concept. I'd push the grimy feeling in the texture more. As far as your other file goes, I'm sorry to hear that. I'd try to redo the first design, because it was a great character and you'll do it even faster a second time than a brand new design the first time.

This guy turned out very nice, indeed.
He looks a little bright - you might be able to use some grime to get some darker tones going, or overall just pull the brightness down just a tad.
I'm really sorry to hear about your other file, it seems like no matter how careful we are that still seems to happen every once in a while.

i like this one a little better too. I am just gonna redo the first one cause you're right, i should be able to do it a lot faster, and i still have the texture! i just hate having to redo things :\ ill make this 2nd one a little more grimy though, thanks!
