Zombies! For Tallchair! Some initial sketches. My concept is zombies that, while living, might have frequented and old-west saloon. Not cartoony enough :(. Still working on ideas.

Hello,

Nice! I especially like the sort of "cowboy" type zombie in your first post. his stance is great, with his hips thrust forward and his arms just sort of hanging by his sides like that. He has a lot of character. I think the next step for you is to take the character that is suggested in that concept piece, and exaggerate it even more - maybe make his arms long and his hands heavy, his hips thrust forward even more and his chin tucked into his chest. Give him a bigger hat. Take what you have there, and push it as far as you think you can. I'm guessing that the end result will be hilarious, which is what we are going for here.

You're off to a great start!

Thanks for the great feedback. Here's a more exaggerated take on the first guy.

Sketched up a bandit and some costume variants. Here are some permutations:

OOh, I likes me some bandits. My personal favorite is the one with the long coat and hat (bottom row second to the right) If you could pull that off with the poly budget and make it look anything like the concept, you can create a really interesting silhouette.

These are looking great!

Oof, sorry for not updating in awhile. I went ahead and started working on the bandit with the long duster since it got a positive response and seemed like a good challenge. He's sitting at 994 tris currently. I set up some UVs, and did a first pass at texturing. Dabu has pointed out some UV problems, so I'm going to back up and fix those.

Hmm...

Okay - the torso is looking a little longer in the model than it appears in the concept. Exaggerating proportions is fine, and desirable - but make sure that it is intentional.

The legs could use some work on their silhouettes - right now they are pretty much straight cylinders.

Take another look at the concept and find areas where you can really reflect that in the model, even in his T-pose. His hips could jut more, he could have an empty pit carved out in his stomach - it's these little details that are really going to make this model pop.

You're off to a great start with this - I'd work with this model and add in the secondary details.

Thanks for the feedback! I went back and revised the proportions slightly and tried to add more variety into the silhouette. A bit more shape in the legs, an exposed bit of rib, more tatters in the coat and hat, etc. Now sitting at 1000 tris exactly.

I dig! Nice use of geo, might be able to optimize the right elbow a bit...

Xyron very generously agreed to do the UVs for the updated mesh, so they are now awesome. He also pointed out a few areas that could still be optimized, which I did. This gave me the spare tris to put in spurs, which I tearfully left out of the original model. Like so:

Also, Dabu what specifically about the elbow?

sweet, I'd make the spurs a little larger so they read from a distance

Blocking in some color and lines. Thanks for the feedback, Dabu. I will embiggen the spurs.

This is looking great!

I'm looking forward to seeing how this looks with the final pass on color. Great job taking feedback, absorbing it, and applying it very well!

Here are some shots of the most recent texturing pass, originally posted in the classroom threads. Finals, holiday travel, and lack of software in my new location have unfortunately prevented me from working on this over the last few days. I'll try to secure some software to give it one last pass before the 20th, but that may or may not be possible. In any case, hope you like it, and a very big thank you to Scott and Tallchair for this great opportunity. :)

Got my software setup. Changed up the colors again and tried to make the textures a bit less flat.
