Here are some very early preliminary sketches of a couple of characters from the Gold Rush era. I was thinking of doing variations of the prospector/miner as well as some for the woman.
Also, I was wondering if there are going to be any rigging issues if the zombie just had a dress or would they be required to have actual legs for rigging purposes.

nice concepts, i especially like the miner
for the dress, that's the same question I had in mind when drawing up my zombie women...
but in the end I just decided showing some leg never hurts :)

Hello,
On the dress issue - if you want to do a dress, go for it - there's just a couple things to keep in mind when modeling a dress. Most of the time, characters with dresses will share a rig with characters that have two separate legs. This way the dress can look natural as the character walks and whatnot.
In order for the dress to deform properly, we're going to need some extra edge loops on the dress going vertically, so that it wont stretch too badly when the legs are apart (such as in taking a step or performing a karate kick).
One thing that you can do to check this out is to plop a checker texture on your character, then make a quick and dirty rig (it can literally be just two sticks for the legs - no need to go all crazy with the IK and all) and put one leg forward and the other one back - if your checker pattern stretches too much then you'll know you need some extra edge loops.

I like the idea of a zombie in a dress. It's a simple way to create a drastically different silhouette.
