This challenge seemed really fun to try, so I'm stepping in. I've started some concept images, but I have yet to finish them. I do have a lot of references and inspiration for what I'm trying to get.

I'll admit, I love Mega Man games, and the classic series brings me a lot of memories, so I have a lot of respect for the classic designs. My goal here is to build an Elecman that is still recognizable, but put my own twist on it. I've been really into characters from the anime company Tatsunoko, and I think i'm going to combine the aspects of those characters with the original design of Elecman, as well as a redesign of Elecman made for the Mega Man Battle Network series on the Gameboy Advance. I also have some other artist renditions of the character to help me out.

I'll be continuing to draw my designs in my spare time, but for now, here's my inspirational images.

After some thinking, I wanted to put in some extra details in the textures, and considering it's Elecman, I figured what better than circuits. So I got some reference for that, as well as a really cool piece of concept art that may get integrated into my final design.

Why yes, yes it is. When I thought about the circuitry idea, I also thought about Tron, and this concept art really seemed to fit.

yeah i keep tellin you guys that tron game is awesome. Of course i think it was pc only, still awesome. Cool ideas so far, but unless you plan on displaying this guy in an engine you may have trouble getting emmisive textures to look good.

Maybe, we'll see how things go, I have some of my own concept art finished, so I'll scan those and post them up later today.

Heres my main concept, I will work the circuitry into this design, and may make some changes to it, but this is the look i'm going for. The helmet is a bit of a mix of the classic design and the tatsunoko characters, and I want to have conduits (?) on his back like in the Battle Network version's, but slightly smaller and less exaggerated. I'm also considering putting in some wires somewhere, maybe like in my other image where the wires come from the belt to the wrist.

And yes, I know the front view of the helmet and the profile view don't match. The Profile view is the correct design, the front view is kinda out of proportion.

While I was doing my sketches, I did a little bit of early modeling work just to get a feel for what it would look like in 3D. First thing I wanted to model was the helmet, and its actually looking cooler than I thought.

I painted over it in photoshop, but the Visor was already yellow and transparent, so I just painted everything else. This is just a little experiment.

I remember there was an old Mythbusters thread, and also many people have been talking about a 2 piece U-Turn solve. We had a bunch of designs but never got it. Do you think its possible?

Good question. The person's only made 1 post apparently, but it's not the typical type of post you'd see in your average spam.

I remember that mythbusters thread! I'm not sure about that 2 piece u-turn solve though, could it be done accurately enough? I suppose as long as your designs are solid it should be possible, I trust you.

Okay I'm just kidding haha. I'm pretty sure thats spam lol

It's been a while since I've worked on him, I've been busy with midterms and other classes, I've had this part done for a while though, hopefully I can get some work on it and finish it.
It's currently at 3912 tris, which is wayyyy below budget, but the head underneath the helmet isn't done, so that'll be a spot to focus on for me. It's all one piece (aside from the helmet being removable). I may take something off and rebuild it as a seperate piece (like the Electrode conduit things on the back). And since I'm really below budget, i'm going to try and make a weapon that I can place on one of his arms. I'll post references later.

weapon reference pics. I figured since this is Elecman, his weapons should fit his theme, and I thought of a weapon I saw on a recent Transformers cartoon's Bumblebee. So I thought I'd use that as a reference, and build from there.

Okay, finally getting more work done on Elecman after some long and tedious other projects. I redid the head due to the face not being well formed for a model with such a big budget on polys. I also created a prototype weapon for him, though it's still in the works, and I plan on having a cable running from the weapon to the conduit thing on his back.

I also hardened a few edges so that it reads better, though obviously, with the lights off, you can't notice that.

If people could, please give me suggestions for the weapon. I decided to give it 3 prongs because of Elecman's "power-up" weapon in the game that fired 3 small lightning bolts.

Did an AO pass on the head and helmet, and applied a work in progress texture, let me know what you think.

hey! you're back in the competition!

helmet design looks fun and definitely "japanese super hero"-esque. digging the large face visor.

hope you take some time to finish this one, at least for practice and\or portfolio piece.

I may not even finish it actually, as time went on, I became less happy with my concept. If I finish it, it's way lower on my priority list than everything else. I've already started my Quickman orthos and concept, i'm much happier with it than I ever was with my Elecman concept.
