View Full Version : ice man-gary
Yeah I'm doing a ice man. Since no one else seems to be doing him. Here is a quick concept design i did at work , then photoshop. I wanted to give him a gas mask and have some type of cooling on his back which keep him cold and let him through ice. Still working on the arms and legs and well everything.

I like ice man so I thought Id post up a reference sheet of mr. freeze since I find him pretty applicable, plus there have been many different conceptions of him so yeah, enjoy this.
Also I didn't put Arnold in there for any good reason, I just felt bad leaving him out. So i hope nobody flames me for that, chill out.
here are some drawings i did while i was in class. Still working on the legs and arms. but here is a basic setup of what I'm going for. The third drawing is to show the side view without the arm hiding the body.
thanks James for the ref pics. I really liked the first one.
here is a update on the front view. Still debating on weather to have two gun arms or one hand. Also not sure if the legs are thick enough.

a little too reminiscent of the Big Daddy from Bioshock, unless that's what you want. either way push the shapes more, and i'm not sure what that hip area is supposed to be. kilt-esque?
yeah, I would refine the design a bit, feels to round overall, try getting more specific with the design... try some sils if you haven't already...
here is a update. I forgot to mention that the iceman I made has a jacket on. I drew it pretty bad so you can't tell. I wanted to give him a Eskimo type jacket, just like the original iceman.
here are some color concepts

for the jacket, definitely pull some more ref on different fits and looks to see what ways you can approach it or ways to incorporate it with the mechanical parts. Lost planet series is a good reference for in-game fuzzy tops and gear incorporation. Also grab some pics of machine joints and robotic factory arms, this might help fix some questionable areas of your design, the points of articulation seem just stuck together rather than mechanized
yeah, check out my playa chick, the fur was all alpha planes.... and no lighting, so you'll have to fully illuminate your textures to work with normal maps, lighting, etc...

For my money, I would go with the top right and the bottom left color concepts.
I'm liking the short shorts. Maybe define the boots more. He might wear some type of ug boot that matches the color of his jacket maybe.

I think you should give him the full on eskimo jacket covering his main body, with all his mechanical bits creeping out of the face, sleeves and front. maybe even more mechanical junk poking out the back.
here is a model update. I'm using more mechanical parts. Not optimized at all and working on the detail. Also working on the Hand. tri count so far is:8395
I'd try to get a little more s curve into his profile, proportions are working...
going to curve it with a rig. here is a update. Working on the normals some more.
here is a update, working on it some of the normals, and etc.... did a quick color scheme paint over.

I think he needs more cool colors. He looks a little charred at the moment. The modeling and AO looks great though. Slap on some materials and you will almost be done.
here is a update. working on getting the "ice over flowing out of him" look, but it turned out like crap, so working on that some more.
here is another update. Trying to get more color into him....and just realized i havn't worked on the back yet...epic fail :)
definitely an improvement, I still say go for an accent color like yellow or red for smaller details, like pipes, etc...

lol @ bmilos' comments
hey, you're pretty far along w\ this. ice is reading more to me as peeled off paint or worn out metal.
nice job modeling the details.

Ice to see you!
But seriously, Batman & Robin quotes aside, this looks great, I especially like the face
