hey guys I am trying to get the look of pieces of colored glass lying on top of each other in photoshop but not quite sure how to accomplish this. any ideas?
So this is pretty crude just to illustrate the technique that I would try if I were you.
Basically I took polygonal shapes and gave them all different hues. Then, set each layer to 'color' and take your fill down about 40 percent. What you get is the color changing as it intersects through various pieces of glass. You can try making the glass who's color is in your main color palette as a 'normal' layer, it kinda makes those shards stand out a touch more. Then obviously take the process and refine it, add some overlays of glass distortion, etc.
Long story short: Set layers to Color, mess with the fill, get cool color changes.

wow nice man that is a good method. using color mix mode is really good, as it leaves the luminosity values the same so you get predictable results.
