Help with rendering plese!

Hey Gamestepper gang, I'm having trouble getting ANY of my render settings to show up for Software, Hardware, Mental Ray, and Vector. All of these render options are enabled in the settings and preferences. I tried deleting my old preferences and re-loading Maya. Please tell me what I can do!! I'm not used to doing professional renders like this...

Are you unable to access the settings menu itself? Or, are you just unable to render anything regardless of changing the settings... ie: what happens if you just hit 'render frame'?

try these two things first, ill assume your on your home computer. First try to create a new project. Second your user account could be corrupt or missing. You can prob go to your my docs and copy the maya folder to back it up. Then delete it and start maya so it makes a new profile. If it does not fix anything then you just copy your old profile back over.
This is an odd problem never encountered it, but you may try reloading the plugins for mental ray and maya vector. Also what os you on and what maya version.

I can render everything with the scene's old render settings, just when I open the render settings window, the window is empty. I tried what you suggested rburke and no avail. I'm running Vista 32 bit *dies*, and I'm using Maya 2008.

2008 has 2 different versions SP1 and SP2 as well as just reg 2008 version. Its likely that the computer you saved the render settings on was a sp1 or sp2 machine and that the one your loading is not. IF that is not the case then try this. Open a new maya scene. then open the render settings.. then import your scene. This way the render settings load from a default scene.
