View Full Version : Reims Cathedral Project WIP

Hey everyone,

I've just started working on this personal project of mine. Hopefully I'll get enough progression on it to show it in my portfolio.

I would definitely like to know what the poly count limit could or should be for this as I am planning to try to put this in the Unreal 3 engine. Also, I'm planning to do a high poly version first, then transfer the normal maps over. Mostly the models will be done in Maya. Gonna need to pick up ZBrush quick for the statues and other complex designs though.

One of the toughest things I have found already is getting great references for this cathedral...especially on specific parts. If anyone can point me in the right direction on that, that would be awesome. I'll continue to update when I get the chance. Any comments, feedback, etc. are always welcomed.

i think the ballpark for UT3 buildings is 30k faces, but that varies so much. something like this would be central to a level, but i don't know what "overboard" would be.

is it more of a stand-alone reel model?

cool, at least now i have a better idea of what to aim the poly count for the low poly version. i'm also planning to check out some of the levels in the UT3 package soon and see what the tri count is. this is also my first time taking on something of this scale so i'm not sure how long this will take me. worst case scenario is that some things will be omitted out.

hopefully i can include this and a few other models in my demo reel. however, a stand-alone reel model sounds like a better idea. thanks for the comments, really appreciate it.
