Okay so i been helping out this other mod team thats making a 1st person shooter upper using the unreal tournament 3 engine. Mod team is called tactical Assault
Working on a boring ak47 which has been done many times but i didn't mind.
Anyways the 1st person model was provided to me all i had to do is texture it.
damn dude.
whats the poly count on that thing?
looks nice.

Its 9800 Tris. He pretty much beveled every corner possible. I personally felt it was a wee bit overkill for a 1st person gun. I know unreal tournament 3 has this much tris for their guns but their guns are much more mechanical and complex.
I did optimize it a little bit for him but I didn't feel like reworking the whole model. I might make another Level of detail for this model that cuts the poly's by half at least or I may just jump ahead to a different project since it wasn't my model to begin with :)

Is that snapshot from maya viewport, or within the engine?
Great model all together. 10k is a bit overkill... but great nevertheless
How did u make the normal maps? If it is transferred from a high poly in Maya, can we see the two side by side, and the wireframe as well plz?

Ya what you see is a Maya viewport real time render with 4 point lights setup
Ya He had so many bevels on the base model where i felt i high poly version wasn't needed.
So most of the normal map was created through texture procedural process using "crazy bump" for the small details.
