View Full Version : Stone Fountain
Just something I've been screwing with while waiting for the new semester. I want to give normal mapping a try soon with this.

are you planning on making a high poly version of this for your N-map sampling?
I don't think you necessarily need it for your cup and water, but I think doing a quick import into z-brush and organically sculpting some of the rock to break up the form a bit (Which can be overlayed with a n-map sample from the diffuse layer to give an organic feel to it.
Here is a tutorial that I would try to follow to add some oomph, to those rocks.

also, is this current prop got a self illuminated texture on it? N-maps don't display with self illuminated textues, as the entire idea behind them is to give every pixel a normal vector for per-pixel lighting information. So if you don't have lights illuminating on it, your normal map will at best not show up, and at worse crash your file when attempted to display in the viewport. (I've had both happen to me.)
Thanks for the response, spiral! The tutorial looks like it's just what I need to get this into the next step.
Right now there are no lights on the scene, so I'm going to have to go in and create a scheme which will allow for normal mapping. This is my first go at normal maps, but I grasp the idea at this point. The import into Z-brush is already something I'm messing with.
Thanks again for the help. I'll try to get an update posted up at some point!
