I keep trying to bake the ambient occlusion like in this tutorial
http://www.game-artist.net/forums/spotl ... st101.html (http://www.game-artist.net/forums/spotlight-articles/1317-tutorial-ambient-occlusion-maya-alchemist101.html)
using mental ray but it always comes out wrong.
Can anyone help?

its not wrong, it just has noise in it. You need to touch it up in photoshop.

ya the jaggies in some areas of the ambient occ pass looks like you baked it with overlapping or mirrored uv.

Delete the duplicated objects that share the same uv space. Every poly must have their own unique uv space and if they don't you get the jaggie artifacts.

Thats my guess :)

But ya ur bake didn't come out 2 bad. I would just do what Dabu suggest and do the quick fix in photoshop

I don't know what units you modeled in, but one thine thing that may help is to uprez your object. Mental ray's ray casting isn't relative. It works better on large objects.

When I do a bake, I make a duplicate mesh and sometimes make that object 5 or 10 times larger.
