Hey Dabu, I am going to do these three things for the final in our class as well as submitting them into maybe getting credit for them.(I thought that I should do more than just one because they are all really small things... also it increases my chances of one being used in the game.)
I will start modeling these tomorrow.
I think the plants alone will be challenging enough, lets start with those and see if you finish with enough time to try another prop or two...

Good idea Dabu.. I'll start working on it tomorrow and if I finish them and they look good enough, I'll do other stuff.

Hey ya'll heres my update.. LOL tumbleweeds... Does anyone else find these things hallarious?
BTW- tumbleweed is at 112 polys,
dark green cactus is at 140, while right cactus is at 128 and finally the cactus plants are 8 polys(flat plane alpha layers) and the others are ranged 72-90 which are more rounded out cactus plants
Please tear it apart! I would like for these to get submitted in the game.. but they need to be good!
model in silouette mode first, your forms are very rough and inorganic...
post wireframes...

You should bake out an occlusion for the plants. It will definitely boost the visuals. You should also make some cards for needles. Draw 2 or three of those with alphas (64x64 is probably good), and spread them around the cactus. 'Shrubbery' is the only request on the list that allows us to use "alphas plentifully", you should take advantage of that.
You need some more final detail on the cactus, the one you have is looking good so far, but still is very plain and you can do more with it :)
The rock needs tweaking on the shape. Right now it's more like a basketball, flatten it down some, give it some flat faces. Think of chipping a rock and the shapes you would have.
Same goes for the tumble weeds, if those are it. Look a reference up on the net. It seems to me, it would be more of a sphere with a 32bit texture of intertwined branches. Maybe two spheres, one inside the other, with a rotation offset (same texture on both). If those are not tumble weeds... my bad, but it does not read like a bush.
Cheers,

The problem is I'm already at 148 tris for the cactus, so my problem now is making room for the alpha cards, (they will be 4 sided planes) so that adds 4 tris to my budget. Any ideas?
Btw the rock is a cactus stone, I am including an image of it. You got the tumble weed right though. I like your idea of doing the alpha sphere with branches, the only problem is I am getting Z fighting when I do that, so hopefully the engine will draw this out correctly when/if it is submitted into the game.
Also I added ambient occlusion to the cactus using the tutorial, I am also including an image of it, but I don't know if I did it right because it looks the same.

Hi Chris,
Looks good after you created a more organic look on the cacti.
I think the tumbleweed texture needs more transparency. It can look better if you find a texture with fewer and thin branches. It'll make the planes less noticable.
Aside from that, great work. :)
kind regards,
Sam
post your textures and uvs for each piece, so we can give you better feedback

Hello, pleasure to meet you Sam. Am I correct in assuming you are one of the developers for this game? Thanks for the comments, I will continue to work on it as you say,(regarding the alpha for the tumbleweed)
Also I am posting my texture for the Cactus, tumbleweed and the Uv's.
Please commit/feel free to add.
Thanks,
Chris
you need some shadow on the main stalk of the cactus where the branches meet it...
